Granite Mill's next BIG project

David is over the top excited about his next BIG project starting some time the beginning of next year! They found out this week they won the Laie Hawaii Temple remodel. They are totally gutting it from the inside and David's company is the one to do all the wood work inside.

This is a dream come true for David. When he was on his mission in Chile, he decided then that he wanted to build temples for a living. He always thought he would be the general contractor to do it. Little did he know that he would be doing his ultimate passion, the beautiful woodwork inside the temple. He won't be the one that does the actual building, but the over seeing of the job and working closely with the church on it.

Last night we went to our Stake Temple night. The temple president said that someday the world would have over 1,000 temples, as quoted by Pres. Kimball. David leaned over and whispered to me and said "maybe that's all we'll be doing soon, temples"!! If that's the case, then we are really seeing that right now. Granite Mill will find out before the month is over if they won the newly announced temple, at general conference in October, the San Salvador temple.

I really hope when the Hawaii temple is over to take our family to the open house. It would be so awesome!! I love to go to the temple. There is such peace and refuge from the world, only found in the House of the Lord. I look forward to the day when each of our kids turn 12. I can't wait to take them to the temple often!! There is no better way to build their testimonies of the importance of temple work than by going!

Here is a little history of the building of that temple and the architectural work on it that I found interesting-

The Laie Hawaii Temple is the 5th operating temple of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. The design of the Laie Hawaii Temple was made to look like the ancient temples found in South America. President Joseph F. Smith stated many times that he wanted it to look like Solomon’s Temple from the scriptures. The exterior of the temple exhibits four large friezes that depict God’s dealings with man. The north frieze depicts the story of the Book of Mormon. The west frieze shows the people of the Old Testament, the New Testament. Events surrounding the great apostasy are depicted on the southern frieze of the temple, and the Restoration of the Church through Joseph Smith is shown on the east wall. It is one of the few LDS temples that does not have a tower or angel Moroni.
