Major CHANGE!!
So, I know you are all just DYING to know what new changes have happened in our family. I really can't believe it myself. In hindsight it all has happened so fast. But a month ago it seemed so far away! Well, David resigned from his job at Granite Mill!! Seems kind of weird with so many people losing their job that he would walk away from his! To give you an idea of what David did there and the huge impact it will make at the Mill I will describe some of the things his work entailed.
Granite Mill is a commercial woodworking business. They build anything "wood" that go in to large buildings such as hospitals, lawyers offices, court houses and even temples. David oversaw the building, shipping, installing and running of each project. If anyone had a question whether they worked out in the shop, were the Project Manager of a job, an installer, a general contractor or owner they came to David. One of the Project Manager's that worked there told me a couple months ago that he didn't know how David handled the stress level of his job. He said one day there were people at work lined up at his office door, waiting for their turn to talk to David about their project they were working on. David either had the answers or would do what ever he had to do to get the answers. David also ran all of the meetings, along with the owners they had weekly. He was involved with the hiring and firing of employees and the pay of each employee.
A lot of why David was so qualified for his position was because he knew every aspect of the business. He owned his own cabinet shop while he was going to BYU where he learned to build, paint and install cabinets. Then he worked for a general contractor after graduating where he learned how to run projects, manage sub-contractors, write professional letters to sub-contractors about their job, read plans and work with owners and architects over the projects. So going back to woodworking and sub contracting David had the knowledge and tools he needed to make him qualified to be in the position he was at Granite Mill.
So, why did David leave his job? Unfortunately the economy has had an effect on pretty much everyone. And the woodworking has felt it also. Last fall, everyone got a pay cut. So when David got a chance to earn some extra money at the fair parking last fall, he told me he was going to take that money and use it as a tool to make more money. I had to bite my tongue. I knew the bills that were coming with Jason's yearly Dr. bill from his echo and Christmas quickly approaching. But I just trusted him. David invested in a laptop from Apple and software to build websites. David had no prior knowledge about how to build websites. Just a desire to learn. So that was the start. He met people that would eventually become his partners. One of those partners was the one that got David going to the temple every week. And the blessings that come from attending the temple are really what opened the doors for David.
David is now putting his full energy to his new job which is work overseas. In the Philippines to be more exact. He is taking his construction and business knowledge and using them for something totally different. The Lord has had a hand in all of this and has made the transition for David a lot easier. We knew back in March when David's dad gave David a blessing that he would be leaving Granite Mill and it would be soon. Everything that needed to happen at Granite Mill fell into place for David to leave. Lots of employees were quite shocked when David made the announcement of him departing Granite Mill. Thursday night David cleaned out his office and Friday morning we cleaned out his company truck that he would be returning that day.
I am excited, to say the least, of what our future is going to be. For David to be giving his full efforts to his company during the day will be such a welcoming change! And a LOT more sleep for the both of us!
