Sunday- First Day Inside Cancun

Sunday

Today we woke up and got ready for church. We got on a bus and drove to the city of Cancun. The church was very hidden. After we got off the bus we were kind of lost. We found a taxi and showed him the address we had written down on a piece of paper. He drove us another 10 minutes to the church. We were grateful for him because I was ready to give up and take the bus back to the hotel! The church was red brick, surrounded by a rod iron fence. There were about 100 people there in the congregation. We got there just minutes before it started. They don’t have any carpet in the church. It is to hot and humid. They had a piano up at the front but no one played for the hymns. The chorister lady just gave a 2 measure intro singing the tune and then they started. The podium did not move up and down. The lady that gave a talk had to stand on the steps that they had to move over, that is normally used for kids in our home ward, so she could see over the podium. It was very interesting singing songs in Spanish, especially since I can not speak it. I could not understand any of what was spoken, but the spirit felt was the same. I love that the church is the same, in the whole world! David of course loved it! Missionary memories flowing back!

We decided to leave after the first hour. We started walking down the narrow street to find the nearest bus to catch. A lady that was going home, also from church, stopped and asked us where we were headed. We told her the bus and she said she would give us a ride to the bus stop. She ended up driving us all the way back to our hotel. That was so nice of her especially since it was 30 mins. away!! Her husband was a manager at a resort and she worked in the spa at the same resort. They were very well off and drove a very nice SUV. She had a son in the car with her also.

Once we got back we changed in to our swimsuits and went and laid down on the beach for the rest of the afternoon. It was very relaxing! We had a dinner reservation at The Davinci Restaurant. It was a formal setting so we wore our church clothes. It was an Italian Restaurant.

Cameron had a Priesthood Preview at the bishop’s house. Chuck took Cameron since David wasn’t there. We also sent a letter to him that David and I both wrote. We talked to him about the meeting after it was over to see how it went. He got a little emotional after thanking us for the letter. So proud of that boy! He is so special!!

Dear Cameron,

We are so proud of the boy you have been in our home and the Young Man you are becoming. You have been a great example to your younger siblings of someone who shows patience, a quiet example of choosing the right through your actions and a leader to your younger siblings. You have always had that strong desire to Choose the Right. We have seen how you have become more responsible in your duties at school and home. You are preparing yourself for the wonderful, yet powerful responsibility to hold the priesthood.

Cameron we love you and are excited for your next step in being one of the very few who hold the priesthood in the whole world. Not very many boys get this opportunity. It will be the most important blessing in your life! Always stay worthy to hold it and never take it for granted. I am excited to see your testimony grow! I love you so much Cameron. I hope you always know how much your mother loves you!

Love, Mom

Cameron, you are a choice man of God. I have known since you were a baby that you were sent to this earth to serve a very special and specific mission. You have always been such a kind and happy soul. The Lord will be able to use your willing heart to bless many lives. Son, I am so proud of you and the decisions that you have made and I know that you will be a worthy priesthood holder.

The priesthood is a holy privilege that very few that have ever lived on this earth have had the chance to possess. It truly is the power of God to act in his name. Think about what that means son, you truly will possess the same power that our Savior holds and the same power that he used to create worlds and perform miracles on earth. Cameron, through your faith you will be able to perform similar miracles in the lives of those you serve if it is the will of our Heavenly Father. The POWER of God is REAL! As real as gravity and the air we breathe. Never forget that son. I love you more than you could ever know.

Love, Dad
