Weekend Recap

We have been busy since Friday! Our ward campout was last weekend and so we went up Friday night and came home on Saturday morning. It was a super quick trip. We drove 2 hours and got up there in time to set up our tent, eat dinner, enjoy a talent show from ward members and then go to sleep. We got up and ate breakfast, took down the tent and left. Was it worth it?! Well, next year, if we go, we will go earlier so the kids can float down the stream, cook s'mores and do all the things that make camping really feel like camping! I'm glad that we went anyway.
(This is what we hauled our camping stuff in on. We made it in one load. Others who stayed for more than a night had to make several loads!)

Sunday our good friends, Scott and Julie and their girls, came to visit. We hung out a lot at BYU playing late night games with them and other friends. They live in Astoria, Oregon and come down for several weeks in the summer to visit family that lives here. For the last three years they have come to Utah they have also come to stay at our house for a few days. The kids play and we get to talk and catch up! It's really a lot of fun. After the kids all went to bed (they all had a slumber party in the girls' room) the party started. We enjoyed playing settler's of catan, eating ice cream, going hot tubing and watching some olympics. We didn't got to bed till 1 AM. They hung out here on Monday. The kids found the costume box in the basement and helped themselves with a costume to wear! We just had to laugh. They were playing fairy land and their sticks were their magic wands! David was at work, so we really didn't do anything to exciting for the day. We look forward to seeing them again next summer!
Melanie (the horse), Cameron (the frog prince), Megan (the fairy), Kaylee (a mommy) & Jason (the teenage mutant ninja turtle)

Last night we went to Orem to visit our new nephew, Caiden!! What a sweetie! You really forget how small they are. You think you remember, but when you see a newborn you really don't at all. They grow up so fast! Caiden looks exactly like Chris! Melanie loved to hold her new cousin..
Today Cameron started school. First day of 1st grade!! I'm excited to hear about his day this afternoon. We live so close to the school I thought we'd walk. Cameron pushed Alyssa and I tried to keep Jason and Melanie following. They were both on their bikes, but were easily distracted by rolly polly's and ants on the sidewalk. It's more work just getting there on time that I don't think we'll walk very much. How pathetic is that when you live just down the road and around the corner? When I was going over the lunch menu for the month, he picked out 2 days out of 2 weeks to have hot lunch-pizza and pig in a blanket (I had to explain that one to him!) Everything else he said no to (I don't blame him. School lunches weren't something I looked forward to). I just hope that he eats his lunch I sent him with! Melanie and Jason get me for preschool this year! Lucky us!!

camping is fun and all the work you wonder if it is worth it but in the end it usually ends up being a good experience.
