Moving, Olaf, Fire Scare and More

We made it!  We closed on our home and got the moving all done!  It was a stressful week for sure!!  We closed on the house Monday July 14th, moved on the 15th and I had cleaners come to our rental on the 16th.  Boy was that the best decision EVER!!  3 ladies got the whole house cleaned in 5 hours.  I would have been there for days!  Then the unpacking started!  David left me Friday morning with the kids to take down and install wood blinds for his parents in St. George.  I opted to stay home, have a spa day and unpack uninterrupted and that turned out to be another great decision!  My feet have hurt every day for a month by the end of the day with standing up all day.  The spa was just what I needed!  When David returned Saturday night I had all the boxes unpacked or moved out of the way.  At least we knew where our clothes were Sunday morning before church!

Another big thing that happened RIGHT after we moved was purchasing our new pet on the 16th.  We are CRAZY to have bought a dog the day after we moved!  But the kids have loved on him ever since and can’t seem to get enough.  He is an English Bulldog and the kids have named him “Olaf” and he definitely likes warm hugs!  I think we have waited for the kids to be at the right age where they can be responsible and take care of him.  Right now he sleeps in the basement in an unfinished room.  Each of the kids have taken a week to wake up at 6 am, take him outside to the bathroom and feed him his breakfast.  It has worked out nicely for me!  One of the conditions of buying this dog was it was THEIR dog and they would be responsible for all his needs.  He sure is cute and we could not have picked a better dog!  He is playful at times but hardly ever barks.  David has taken him to work a couple of times and he is awesome!  We are pretty attached!

Colby and his family visited on their way home from Colorado for a day and night.  We took Colby to Crossfit, roasted s’mores in our firepit and swam at Seven Peaks.  It was so much fun to have them over!  Glad we had a good week to move in before they came!  I can’t believe we didn’t get any picturesSad smile

Another crazy thing that happened only 1.5 weeks after we moved in was we were evacuated in the middle of the night at 3 am Saturday morning, July 26th.  I got a random phone call at 2:55 am from my old neighbor, Angela and I didn’t answer it.  Less than 2 minutes later there was a knock on the door from a fireman telling us to evacuate because the hill behind our house was on fire.  Our whole house smelled like smoke!  Angela called me again and this time I did answer as I was gathering up the kids.  She asked if I needed a place to stay.  Luckily she woke up and saw the hill on fire from her bedroom!  So we went there and slept.  David stayed up by the house and watched the rest of the morning.  We could not get in to our home until 10:30 Saturday morning.  The fire was caused by teenagers and sparklers.  They were in a “no firework” area.  The good thing that turned out from this is we were on the news that night on FOX!  The kids felt pretty famous after that!  I had so much to get done that Saturday because David was leaving to the Philippines the next day!

One of the coolest things about this backyard is going up the mountain and hiking the ditch bank!  The views are incredible!  I can’t wait to be able to run up here!  We have not been up since the fire happened.  It didn’t make it down as far as the trail but it was pretty close!

After David left Sunday I declared the rest of that week a week of FUN!  We were ready to enjoy summer!  So we went to Xtreme Airtime Sports Monday.  It was a lot of fun for the kids.  Unfortunately our fun ended there.  The starter went out in the van and I had to have it towed away to get fixed.  We only made it to do one other FUN thing that week and that was swimming at the Provo Rec Center outdoor pool that we had never been to.  Our week didn’t go as planned on the calendar but we made do with what we could.

Jenna begged to make cupcakes so she could decorate them.

Alyssa got her ears pierced for the second time!  Lesson learned.  Only use 14K gold earrings, not the cheap earrings that are half price when getting your first pair of earrings put in.  She has waited almost 2 years to have them in again!
