Cameron and Melanie’s trip to Washington

Cameron and Melanie had the best Christmas vacation!  They left to Washington with their Grandma and Grandpa Lee on the 27th and stayed for a whole week with Grandpa and Grandma McGary!  They played, worked and got spoiled!  What great memories they made!  Melanie came home with LOTS of pictures on her new camera.  Perfect timing to get it!  She and Cameron were testing out all the cool things it could do on the long drive!

And then she decided to take some of her cousin’s Eliza and Miriam…

They stayed the night with Aunt Melissa and played with their cousins until Saturday late morning when Grandma McGary picked them up.  Then the party started!  First up was making cinnamon rolls!  YUMMY!!!  The thing Melanie wanted to do the most was ride the horses.  The only thing was she has only ridden them in the summer.  She didn’t realize how cold it would be!  Grandpa and Melanie took a long horse ride on Saturday anyway.  She came back frozen but had a lot of fun!  They even found a frozen bird with it’s wings out on the ground!

Games of Pictionary and Yahtzee were also a favorite thing to play with Grandma!  They brought home their very own game of Yahtzee!

The most favorite thing Cameron was looking forward to were Grandma’s breakfasts!  Yes, he loves a good BIG breakfast and Grandma did not disappoint!

Bailey and Alex came out to Grandma’s for 2 days to spend time with Melanie and Cameron.  They had a blast!  The girls made doll clothes with Grandma for their American Girl Dolls.  Melanie came home with such cute outfits for her doll!  They stayed until New Year’s Eve and their parents took them home after the New Year’s party.

Grandpa and Melanie made a doll bed for her doll and Cameron and Grandpa made a bird house.  They turned out awesome!

Cameron’s favorite thing he did while visiting was to go hunting with Grandpa.  He absolutely LOVE IT!!!  Grandpa and Cameron went out and shot a coyote that Grandpa skinned and put on a board for Cameron to bring home.  They also found a coyote skull that he brought home.  Then he let Cameron shoot at a target until he could hit the black circle and then let him go shoot a bird.  Cameron was over the moon when he killed his first bird!  And if that wasn’t enough he took Cameron to town and went to Sportsman’s Warehouse and they put a picture with Cameron and the coyote on the bragging wall!  Grandpa also bought him a camouflage coat there!  He came home so excited to show everything!  Grandpa is so selfless in always giving so much time to people!

Grandma decided that Melanie’s doll needed bedding!  So she got out an old quilt that was falling apart that Great Grandma Zimmerman and Grandma Floyd made for Grandma McGary.  She found a place that wasn’t torn up and used that part as the quilt for the doll.  This is an heirloom quilt!  It has all the hand quilting that was originally there.  I hope Melanie keeps it forever and passes it down to her girls some day along with the doll bed!

While Cameron and Grandpa were in town doing guy stuff at Sportsman’s, Melanie and Grandma went to town too.  They shopped for food to take on the drive home with them.  (Mom has created a tradition to send us home with lunch for our drive back to UT when we visit.  The kids LOVE it!)  They bought a Yahtzee game, a dog for her American Girl Doll and finished it off by getting their nails done!  Melanie got a cute flower on two of her nails.

Cameron and Melanie were ready to come home after a week.  They really missed their brother and sisters!  But I am just filled with so much emotion for how much time my parents took with them!  They truly had a wonderful experience, not anything like when the whole family is at Grandpa and Grandma’s house!  I am so grateful they had this opportunity and that Grandpa and Grandma Lee were able to take them up there.  It just worked out perfectly!
