Melanie's Kindergarten Kaleidoscope Day

Yesterday Melanie had Kindergarten Kaleidoscope. They got to work on all kinds of projects at different stations in the gym and then got to go through the lunch line. The highlight of the day for the kids. Melanie asked David if he would go. He worked out his schedule so he could, which I was very grateful for. One less hassle of finding a babysitter in the morning and having to take Jenna.
Melanie came home with all sorts of projects to show me. She told me they had chicken nuggets and french fries for lunch. A classic school lunch I guess.
We are adjusting to David's new work schedule more. Today he went to work in shorts, because he could! I am still trying to be patient and have to realize that "time" doesn't happen all at once when you are self-employed. David went to his softball game last night at 9:30 than stayed up working and talking with his employees in the Phillippines when he got home. He went to bed at 3:30 this morning. The pressure to provide is even greater when you own your own business. The guaranteed pay check every 2 weeks at the last job isn't there anymore. The hard work and effort David puts in now is all up to him! Liberating and stressful at the same time. But David said on Monday, the first day not working for Granite Mill, that the weight on his shoulders had been lifted. He felt so much lighter! So I am happy about that. I just have to be patient and realize that the company is still young and still needs nourishing with hard work. It's hard to be patient sometimes though!!

As a teacher, nothing thrilled me more than to see the Dad's take time out of their schedules to show their children that their life & interests were important. It was so healthy on the kids too. You nailed it about being self employed. It has it's benefits beyond anything and is so self-rewarding but extremely stressful. Nothing is consistent. Budget is almost impossible because for us it seems each year, month, project everything changes. We wouldn't have it any other way (except for health insurance). :) Good luck to David in it. I know he'll do awesome!

David, and two other guys he works with, were invited to the Jazz game last Friday night. I have come to find out as a construction wife, to get business, you gotta play A LOT ! Our New Family Pictures

I have been on the hunt for a really good photographer for a long time here and there.  And I think I found one that did everything I wanted.  First, she comes and looks at the feel of your home.  For us I just sent pictures of our living room where I wanted the pictures placed.  Then she suggests colors to wear and sent pictures back with our room and picture placements she puts on the walls.  And with 5 kids, especially Jenna, you really have to photo shop A LOT!!  Almost every photo with Jenna she had to photo shop.  She did amazing!!  I was so nervous when we went over and viewed our pictures at her house.  As David put it after our photo shoot “She has to be a magician to get anything good out of that!  That was a disaster!”  After looking at our proofs I said, “well, you are a magician!”  And David said after leaving and climbing in our car to go home “That was worth every penny.”  Success! Melanie’s Calling in Life

Two Days ago Melanie was getting ready to go out the door.  She had her coat and was looking for her other jacket.  I asked her why she needed it when she already had her coat on.  She said she was going to take it to her friend at school, Humana, because she wears 3 jackets and doesn’t have a coat.  5 minutes later Melanie asked me “Mom, can we buy Humana a coat?”  I had already been thinking about that but told Melanie I would look while I was out to see if I could find one.  I went to 3 different stores to look!  Winter coats in that size are hard to find these days!  But I finally found something at Walmart and got gloves and a hat.  My friend, Angela, who drove carpool that morning called me while I was out looking.  She called worried because Melanie had said on the way to school that her friend didn’t have a coat and was sleeping on the floor.  I told her I knew about the coat and was getting one but Melanie hadn’t mentioned ...
